Shampoo Bar FAQ
What is a shampoo bar?
There are two main types of shampoo bars. The first is very similar to a bar of soap and made of oils, butters and lye. It goes through a chemical reaction called saponification to form a hard bar that can be used on hair. The benefits of this type of shampoo bar are that they typically use more natural ingredients, but the PH is often too high for hair and the shampoo can be very difficult to rinse out, especially in hard water. It can result in waxy buildup over time and can even be damaging.
The other type of shampoo bar is called a "syndet" bar comprised of some synthetic ingredients like surfactants (to create lather) and emollients (to create shine and bind everything together) since the bar doesn't go through saponification. A syndet bar is highly customizable and can easily be made at a safe PH for hair. There is typically no difficulty rinsing out the shampoo and they are generally much more gentle and safe.
Which type of Bar is The Perfect Shampoo Bar?
Our shampoo bars are Syndet bars and made of the finest natural and synthetic ingredients (derived from nature). They are formulated for all hair types to add volume and shine and are easy to rinse out, even in hard water. The main surfactant is an ingredient derived from coconuts and they contain zero phthalates, silicones, parabens or sulfates. We even add in amazing ingredients like cocoa butter, coconut oil, elderberry extract and glycerin for detangling and volume. We only use essential oils for the light and lovely scent of orange blossom, which is a combination of Orange, Rose and Palmarosa.
What is the best way to use a Shampoo Bar?
You can either work up a lather in your hands with water, or apply the bar directly to hair under the stream of water from the shower. A great bonus to using a shampoo bar is you can be more targeted to WHERE it's applied, especially if you like to shampoo twice.
How do I make my Shampoo Bar last longer?
Just like a bar of soap, keeping it dry in between uses and in a well ventilated area is key for making your shampoo bar last longer. Typically, our Shampoo Bars last as long as two bottles of shampoo, as long as they are allowed to dry out in between uses.
